Whether you're traveling with family, seeking a quiet retreat, or looking for mineral-rich waters, Australia has a spring for you.

How to reach Australia's hot springs
Melbourne for Victoria's spa country (Daylesford/Hepburn, 90 minutes' drive). Brisbane or Longreach for the outback artesian trail — this is serious remote driving: reliable 4WD, full fuel, water and a satellite communicator. Sydney serves the NSW listings.
Where Australia's springs cluster
- Great Artesian Basin — Outback Queensland and South Australia: bore-fed pools at stations and caravan parks along the track.
- Victoria's spa country — Daylesford and Hepburn Springs — historic mineral-springs towns with bathhouses.
- New South Wales — Lightning Ridge's free artesian bore baths and the northwest hot pools.
Best time to visit
April–September for the outback — summer heat is brutal even if the water is perfect. Victoria's spa towns shine in autumn. The tropics are year-round.
Good to know
Outback distances are vast and there is no cell signal between bores: tell someone your plans and carry 5+ litres of water per person per day. Artesian water can be very hot at the bore — most pools are regulated, but always test. In the bush, watch for snakes around warm water at dusk.
