Death Anniversary: In 50 years of a film career, Rishi Kapoor did work in 92 romantic films, won the award by becoming a villain in ‘Agneepath’.
Today is Rishi Kapoor’s first death anniversary. He died on April 30, 2020, at the age of 67. He was battling cancer. Rishi Kapoor had cancer in 2018. He went to America for treatment. He returned to India in September last year after staying there for 11 months. After returning, he expressed his desire to start acting again in an interview but then passed away.
Work done in 121 films
In her 50-year film career, Rishi acted in about 121 films. He made his debut as a child artiste in Raj Kapoor’s film Mera Naam Joker (1970). He received a National Award for his role in the film. His role as an actor was Bobby (1973), in which he appeared alongside Dimple Kapadia. For this film, he received the Filmfare Best Actor Award (1974).
Rishi Kapoor’s image was that of a romantic hero. He was also well-liked by the audience in a romantic style. This is the reason that between 1973 and 2000, Rishi acted in 92 romantic films out of which 36 films proved to be a superhit. These include films like ‘Karz’, ‘Deewana’, ‘Chandni’, ‘Sagar’, ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’, ‘Hum Kisni Kya Kosh’, ‘Prem Rog’, ‘Hina’.

with Neetu were well-liked with Rishi Kapoor’s wife Neetu, a romantic couple. The two worked together on about 12 films. Among these, Khel Khel Me (1975), Kabhi Kabhi (1976), Amar Akbar Anthony (1977), Duniya Meri Jeb Mein (1979), and Pati Pyaan Aur Woh (1978) (both of them guest appearances) proved to be hit while Zaharala Insan (1974 ), Zinda Dil (1975), Dohi Aadmi (1977), Unknowingly (1978), Liar Kahin Ka (1979) and Dhan Daulat (1980), Do Dooni Char (2010), Besharam (2013) were flops.
Rishi, who played a negative role in Agneepath, also tried his hand at directing. He directed the film Aa Ab Laut Chalen in 1998 starring Akshaye Khanna and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Rishi had always played a romantic character from the beginning of his career, but everyone was surprised to see his villainous character in the Hrithik starrer film Agneepath. Rishi was also awarded IIFA’s Best Negative Role Award for the film ‘Agneepath’.
Rishi started supporting roles with Big B in ‘Not Out’. Rishi Jalwa (2002), Hum Tum (2004), Fanaa (2006), Namastey London (2007), Love Aaj Kal (2009), and Patiala House (2010). He also appeared in the English films Don’t Stop Dreaming (2007) and Sambhar Salsa (2008). In 2018, he appeared in the Umesh Shukla-directed comedy-drama film ‘102 Not Out’. It saw Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor again on screen together after 27 years.
