2- Crazy return to the opera
The Théâtre du Capitole will launch its new opera season on September 24 with “La Gioconda”, by Amilcare Ponchielli, a work premiered in 1876 at La Scala in Milan. Béatrice Uria-Monzon will play the title role of a show directed by Olivier Py and directed by Roberto Rizzi-Brignoli. Artistic director of the Théâtre du Capitole, Christophe Ghristi does not hide his enthusiasm for this work: “La Gioconda is one of the craziest and most fascinating operas in the entire repertoire. Based on the play by Victor Hugo, Arrigo Boito wrote a libretto
spectacular, not shrinking from any excess and displaying an irresistible fever and emotion. For such a work, you need a great and true theater director, not afraid of excess and grandeur. Olivier Py is obviously one of them and I am happy to have associated the Théâtre du Capitole with the Monnaie de Bruxelles for a new production of this rare masterpiece. Rare indeed since La Gioconda had never been performed at the Capitol and will therefore make its entry into the repertoire. Guardian figure of the house, Béatrice Uria-Monzon will play the title role opposite the first Enzo of the great Ramón Vargas. “
“La Gioconda”, from September 24 to October 3 at the Théâtre du Capitole. Duration 3 h 10, prices: from € 10 to € 113.
