‘Lady’s Gambit’ and ‘the Mandalorian’ gain lead at 2021 Emmys after sweeping creative categories

The awards ceremony will be held on September 19 and will be broadcast live at dawn in Spain by Movistar +.

The gala of the 73rd edition of the Emmy Awards that recognize the best of the small screen is celebrated this Sunday, September 19, but, as usual, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has already announced the winners of the most technical categories. Those known as the Creative Emmy, which have already given some edge to two of the big contenders at next weekend’s ceremony: the acclaimed limited fiction starring Anya Taylor Joy Lady’s Gambit and The Mandalorian, which premiered its second season at the end of last year 2020.

While the Netflix series has taken over nine technical awards, the first live-action series within the Star Wars universe has harvested seven statuettes. Also, both could continue adding awards, since they compete in some of the main categories. Lady’s Gambit, for its part, has many ballots to win the award for Best Miniseries or TV Movie -although it competes with other high-level series- and several are the members of its cast that also compete for awards: Anya Taylor Joy is among the nominated for Best Actress within the category, while Moses Ingram and Thomas Brodie-Sangster are also eligible for Best Actress and Supporting Actor, respectively. Secondly, The Mandalorian is among the candidates for the most important award of the gala, Best Dramatic Series, with Giancarlo Esposito also competing as Best Supporting Actor within the category.
