The Goya will be held in Valencia on February 12

The gala will have several presenters and will be a tribute to Luis García Berlanga on his centenary, in his hometown.

“The reunion gala”. This is what the president of the Film Academy has called, Mariano Barroso, the 36th edition of the Film Academy Awards, the Goya 2022. The gala will be in Valencia, on February 12, will have an audience, will pay tribute to Luis García Berlanga on the centenary of his birth, and will not have a single presenter, but several well-loved figures from the world of cinema, and the different ways of understanding cinema.

Centennial of Berlanga: The unrepeatable filmmaker who had a deeper Spain than an Iberian ham

It has been explained by the president of the Film Academy, Mariano Barroso, surrounded by the Valencian authorities, the city that will host the event, after last year it was held in Malaga and without an audience, a sober gala that presented Antonio Banderas with María Casado from the Teatro del Soho CaixaBank in Malaga.

Along with Barroso, the president of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig; the mayor and deputy mayor of the city of Turia, Joan Ribó and Sandra Gómez López; the president of the Valencia Provincial Council, Toni Gaspar; and the vice president of the Academy, Rafael Portela.

“Last year we missed the public a lot and what better place for this reunion than the city of Valencia and this Palau de Les Arts where we are?”, Assured Mariano Barroso.

The president of the Generalitat Ximo Puig also referred to the emotional significance of this event in these circumstances.

“It places us on the side of hope and is a milestone in the emotional recovery that we need. It is more than a gala, it is a support for the Spanish film industry and its resurgence.”

Among the novelties of this edition of the awards is that nor it will have a single presenter or pair of presenters, but there will be several well-known and well-known figures representing the different types of cinema that are made in our country, the conductors of the ceremony, in which Valencian directors and interpreters will participate and in which Luis García Berlanga will have a special role. Thus closes the ‘Berlanga Year’ with which the Academy has commemorated the centenary of the one who is honorary president of the institution.

Prior to the delivery of the awards and within the framework of the ‘Berlanga Year’, the Academy will carry out, starting this fall and in this city, activities to continue honoring and recognizing the figure of the Valencian filmmaker. In addition, València will host a series of actions –exhibitions, screenings of nominated films and meetings with filmmakers and professionals from our industry– that will culminate on the night of February 12 of next year.

Girls swept the 2021 edition

A film festival that, with the majority of the population vaccinated, we hope is very different from last year. In which only the nominees and nominees attended the gala. Also those in charge of delivering the different awards and all attendees underwent diagnostic tests for COVID-19 days before the gala. For the annals of history, there will be those images of the winners receiving their prizes on the screen as a hug from their relatives.
