How to reach Colombia's hot springs
Fly into Bogotá or MedellĂn, then travel overland to Manizales (bus or short flight). Paipa is an easy trip from Bogotá. Roads in the coffee region are winding but scenic.
Where Colombia's springs cluster
- Caldas (Manizales) — Termales del Ruiz and the Santa Rosa de Cabal hot waterfalls — the heart of it.
- Boyacá (Paipa) — The classic weekend escape from Bogotá, with a big thermal complex.
- Cundinamarca — Choachà and the eastern highland springs near the capital.
Best time to visit
December–March and June–August are the drier windows. Mornings are clearest in the highlands; afternoons bring the classic Andean rain.
Good to know
Altitude matters: Manizales sits around 2,150m — take it easy the first day. Santa Rosa de Cabal's waterfall-fed pools are the postcard shot. Weekends are busy with Bogotá families; midweek is serene.
