How to reach India's hot springs
Delhi, then overnight bus or flight to Kullu/Bhuntar for Parvati Valley and Manali. The mountain roads are spectacular and slow.
Where India's springs cluster
- Parvati Valley (Manikaran) — Sacred Sikh and Hindu springs; the water cooks the langar rice.
- Manali (Vashisht) — Ancient stone baths in a traditional village above town.
Best time to visit
March–June and September–November. Monsoon (July–August) brings landslide risk on mountain roads; winter is very cold.
Good to know
These are sacred sites — dress modestly, remove shoes where required, and respect temple customs. The water at Manikaran's source is boiling: bathe only in the regulated pools. Altitude and mountain roads demand respect.
