Choose your kind of soak
Whether you're traveling with family, seeking a quiet retreat, or looking for mineral-rich waters, Slovenia has a spring for you.
Slovenia's 10 listings are pure terme culture: grand thermal resorts in the east, the black mineral water of the Pannonian plain, and a single seaside thermal spa on the short Adriatic coast. A national tradition, done well.
How to reach Slovenia's hot springs
Ljubljana is central to everything — most terme are 1–2 hours by car or bus. The coast (Portorož) is 90 minutes southwest.
Where Slovenia's springs cluster
- Eastern Slovenia — Terme Olimia, Terme Čatež and Dobrna — the historic spa heartland.
- Northeast (Prekmurje) — Terme 3000's black mineral water at Moravske Toplice.
- Adriatic coast — Terme Portorož — thermal seawater pools by the sea.
Best time to visit
Year-round. Winter is peak indoor season; summer adds the coast. Shoulder months are quiet and good value.
Good to know
Several Slovenian waters hold official natural-healing certification — the medical tradition is real. The big terme are family waterparks as much as spas; for quiet, choose the smaller historic houses. Prices are moderate by European standards.
