Whether you're traveling with family, seeking a quiet retreat, or looking for mineral-rich waters, South Korea has a spring for you.

Korea's 10 listings capture the oncheon and jjimjilbang world: social, affordable, open late β€” bathhouses as a way of life. Busan's spa culture and Suanbo's mountain waters lead the map.

How to reach South Korea's hot springs

Seoul for the capital region's bathhouses; Busan for the great southern spas (KTX train, 2.5 hours). Suanbo is a bus ride from Chungju. Everything is well-connected by Korea's superb transit.

Where South Korea's springs cluster

  • Busan β€” Hurshimchung and the Haeundae-area oncheon β€” Korea's spa capital.
  • Suanbo β€” Mountain alkaline waters in a historic spa town near Woraksan.
  • Uljin (Deokgu) β€” The east coast's natural geyser-fed spa valley.

Best time to visit

Autumn for foliage and crisp air; winter for the full jjimjilbang refuge. The October hot-spring festival season is lively.

Good to know

Bathing areas are gender-separated and nude; the clothed jjimjilbang common areas are mixed and social. Scrub attendants (seshin) are normal β€” tip in cash. Swim caps are often required in pools.
