How to reach Thailand's hot springs
Chiang Mai is the base for the northern springs (Mae Hong Son loop); Bangkok for the south. Rent a motorbike or hire a songthaew for the rural sites.
Where Thailand's springs cluster
- Chiang Mai & Pai — Pong Dueat's geyser, Mae Hong Son loop springs, Pai's riverside pools.
- South (Krabi) — Wareerak's jungle hot springs near the Andaman coast.
Best time to visit
November–February: cool, dry, perfect highland weather. The hot season (March–May) makes hot springs a harder sell.
Good to know
Northern springs pair with the Mae Hong Son motorbike loop — a classic adventure. Many sites are national-park managed with small entry fees. Mornings are misty and magical.
